January 1st - Snowman Hand Print Ornaments
This is a project I started before Christmas but never had a chance to finish. This idea comes from two posts on pinterest. I will link to both posts and the original posts as well just in case the pinterest link stops working at some point.
I started put with plain clear glass ornaments and filled them with acrylic paint and swirled it around to cover the inside of the globe. Ta-da! Colored Ornaments! I choose 2 shade of blue for this project because I thought the white snowmen would look best against blue. This is the part I did before Christmas and you are about to find out why. They took FOREVER to dry! I don't know if I put in to much paint or not because there are still some thin spots. I want to say I swirled the paint in them for two days trying to get it to look even and to dry. Then hubby put them back in the box in order to get to something that was underneath of them...I didn't have an chance to fish them back out, out of sight out of mind.
Which brings me to...January 1st. Perfect day to work on all those unfinished loose ends from 2012. I painted my daughters hand with white paint and held the ornament in her palm and helped to to wrap her fingers up around it to get a white hand print on the ornament. It was fairly easy to get the hand print, some places came out thin/not at all because of how she held it. We hung the ornaments from hangers using string so they could dry. (Oh yes, side note because of the paint inside drying on an angle, picture glass ornaments in the box they are on their side, my ornaments were all weighted really heavily to one side. Causing them to roll around like crazy. I realized this prior to hand printing though so I never tried to set them down, we just hung them up.)
I gave them some time to dry and then painted on the hats, scarves, faces etc using paint markers. I also wrote my daughters name on them and the date.
Overall day 1 was a success.
